FAQs

What does a Tools for School Teen Board member do?

We have two different kinds of Teen Board members:

Executive Board Members: Executive Board members are the core of Tools for School. This small group of 3-6 people are responsible from cultivating and delivering corporate sponsors, developing and executing a marketing and communications strategy, identifying and calling past donors, and working with a supplier to execute the annual back-packing event down the shore in August 2019.

General Board Members: Board members are called on when the executive board needs additional help. This may be for a special event, like a school’s Spirit Week fundraiser, or a telethon to get donations for a fundraising campaign. We also may ask for your help in getting the word out about Tools for School on social media or otherwise.

How much time should I plan to devote to Tools for School?

Executive Board members should plan to spend 2-4 hours per week working on Tools for School objectives. Whether that’s conference calls or working on our next email blast, we’re expecting executive board members to be able to meet deadlines and fully execute their ideas.

General Board members will be called on throughout the year. We may not need your help some weeks, but we may need you to assist another week.

I’ve never done work with a non-profit before! Can I still join?

Yes! We will teach you everything you need to know, if you are willing to put in the time and effort to learn and contribute your skills to make the organization better.
